Mark the calendar, May 5-10, for the annual Week of Blessings in Destin.

New to town or never participated before? Here's what to expect.

What is the Week of Blessings?

“It’s another opportunity to bless the community and serve our citizens outside the four walls of the church,” said Michelle Terry, president of the Church of Destin.

Now in its 21st year, the Week of Blessings is put on by the Church of Destin, whose slogan is, “one church, many congregations.”

Nearly 300 people came out for the 20th annual Blessing of the Marketplace at Destin Methodist Church last year. At the event, there will be a time for prayer over businesses in the area.

What is new this year?

There will be a Blessing of the Youth event on May 8 at Shoreline Church from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a concert and a speaker,” Terry said.

The concert will be put on by youth worship bands from the local churches.

The event is free and open to middle and high school students.

What's happening and when?

  • May 5 – Blessing of the Families: Intentional blessings will be made over families in the community during Sunday services.
  • May 6 – Day of Prayer and Fasting: People are encouraged to pray for their neighbors, community, leaders of the nation and around the world.
  • May 7 – Community and First Responders Outreach: Members of the Church of Destin will go throughout the community blessing local government and first responders with prayer and snacks.
Lunch will be provided at the Blessing of the Marketplace.
  • May 8 – Blessing of the Marketplace: This event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Family Life Center at Destin Methodist Church at 200 Beach Drive.

Instead of a special speaker, “We are going to do a panel of local business people, who co-labor in their business with God and work life,” Terry said.

She explained it will be a little question-and-answer time that will hopefully “motivate people to want to work beside Jesus every day.”

The Blessing of the Marketplace will be on May 8 at the Destin Methodist Church in the Family Life Center.

There will be individual prayer opportunities.

Lunch will be provided as well.

  • May 9 – Blessing of the Fleet: Prayer and worship service will begin at 4 p.m. under the tent behind Brotula’s Seafood House and Steamer with the blessing of the boats immediately following.

  • May 10 – Random Acts of Kindness: People are asked to share the “love of Jesus” by practicing random acts of kindness throughout our community by leaving a big tip or just helping someone with your time or resources.
