Any song Taylor Swift drops is big, but when it name-checks your town — now that's an added plus.

It didn’t take long for the city of Destin and its mayor to acknowledge the namecheck from Swift in her newest song, "Florida!!!" which was released on Friday.

Friday morning, Mayor Bobby Wagner posted on his Facebook page that he “woke up to Taylor Swift’s post flooding my feed.”

And understandably so, as social media has been abuzz about the new song.

In “Florida!!!” she sings: "Little did you know your home's really only; A town you're just a guest in; So, you work your life away just to pay; For a time-share down in Destin.”

The city of Destin got in on the fun with a post on its Facebook page.

“We’ve had other songs mention Destin over the years, but it’s the first official for Taylor Swift with her newly released 'Florida!!!' We always had a sneaking suspicion that 'Shake it Off' was really about the sand in her toes after a long, happy beach day.”

How pervasive is this Taylor Swift news in and around Destin? When The Destin Log reached out to Wagner for a comment on Friday, he answered the phone “Taylor Swift hotline.”

"I enjoy talking,” Wagner said, but his phone and other social media outlets have been blowing up all day.

“My thumbs are blistered, and my voice is raspy” from answering calls, Wagner said.

"For the song being called 'Florida!!!' ... we’re the only city in the Florida song,” he pointed out.

“To hear our name in that first chorus,” Wagner said, was special.

Wagner said statewide bloggers and media sites have been contacting him all day.

“I think it’s a great song ... a little moody and edgy,” he said.

As for the lyric reference to a “timeshare,” Wagner said he wanted to set the record straight: Destin only has one building that has a timeshare. The city does have several beachfront condos and hotels.

“Destin is a place for all ... and we encourage you to come check it out,” Wagner said, noting the fishing, white sand beaches, emerald green waters and diving for artificial reefs.

Wagner said when the song dropped, the search engine optimization (SEO) numbers for those searching the keyword "Destin" went through the roof.

“I’m sure it will be an economic tick for us,” he said, noting Destin is in the news and getting its 15 minutes of fame.

But he is trying to steer it toward giving back to the kids in the community through music and the arts.

“Music is something we can all come together on,” Wagner said.
